About

Jo Dawson is a contemporary British ceramicist and musician based in North London.

Her journey with clay began over 20 years ago when she started to attend pottery evening classes whilst working as a music teacher.

This ignited her initial interest in clay which then led her to study a BA in Fine Art at Central St. Martin's School of Art. Whilst focusing on her music and art teaching career in the following years, she has come back to working with clay more intensely, exploring ways to weave together her backgrounds in music and visual art.

‘I like to work sculpturally, creating forms which have some relationship to nature and architecture, with a sense of movement both in their shape and in the markings on the surface.’

Exhibition: Gestural Matter

May 2026

54 The Gallery, London W1J 7QX

This series is exploring the vessel as a shifting form. Edges are being pushed and folded, surfaces carrying traces of process and time. The work moves between object and landscape - suggesting memory, erosion and change.
